Board of Directors and Executive Team
Richard Leggett — Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Leggett has been Chairman and CEO of BIA since October 2008. He has worked in the financial services industry for 18 years, most recently at RiskMetrics Group, where he ran the Governance Business unit (formerly ISS). Prior to RiskMetrics Group, Mr. Leggett was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Financial Research and Analysis (CFRA), a leading independent research firm that was acquired by RiskMetrics in 2007. Prior to joining CFRA, Mr. Leggett was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in New York and London in both the equity research and investment banking divisions. He also serves as Chairman of Investorside Research, a non-profit trade association representing the independent research industry. Mr. Leggett is also a Board Member for New York City Outward Bound (NYCOB), a non-profit that opens and operates small public schools in New York City in partnership with the Department of Education. Mr. Leggett holds a BS in Business Administration from Georgetown University.
Dan Curtis — Chief Financial Officer
Prior to joining BIA, Mr. Curtis provided financial and strategic advisory consulting services to emerging, venture-backed companies. Most recently, Mr. Curtis has had senior financial responsibilities with Virtue, Inc. and Visible Measures, Inc. Mr. Curtis’ consulting expertise also assisted the $70M sale of SiteAdvisor, Inc. to McAfee, Inc. and the $15M sale of IncentaClick Media Group, Inc. to Cyberplex, Inc. Additionally, Mr. Curtis was the Chief Financial Officer of the Surmet Corporation until 2006. Mr. Curtis is a CPA and received a BS in Accounting from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.
Joel Lanik — Director
Mr. Lanik is a Principal at Frontier Capital where he is responsible for developing, analyzing, executing and monitoring investment opportunities. He was recently the Vice President of Finance & Strategy at LURHQ, a leading provider of managed IT security services, where he was responsible for all financial, strategic planning, legal and HR operations. Prior to this operating role, Joel was with Frontier Capital where he was instrumental in the successful deployment of Frontier Fund I. In addition, Joel was a Senior Financial Analyst with investment bank Lloyd & Company. Joel is a Chartered Financial Analyst who holds a bachelors degree in Economics from Duke University and an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia where he was a Shermet Scholar and graduated with Distinction.
Cheryl Cook — President and Director
Ms. Cook is a co-founder of BIA and currently oversees production and delivery of BIA’s research, training and information collection offerings. Previously, Ms. Cook served as Vice President–Resource Planning and General Counsel of Consolidated Rail Corporation and Chief Operating Officer of Trainlogic, Inc., a company focused on web-based training. Ms. Cook received an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a JD from Villanova University and a BA from Pennsylvania State University.
Liam Donohue — Director
Mr. Donohue is a co-founder and General Partner of .406 Ventures, a Boston-based venture capital firm. Prior to founding .406, Mr. Donohue was a founding General Partner of Arcadia Partners, a fund focused on investments in tech-enabled education companies and a founding investor in BIA. Mr. Donohue has also served as a Principal at Foster Management Company and as a Director for Booz Allen Hamilton, where he opened and directed the firm’s Budapest office. Mr. Donohue holds a BS in Chemistry from Georgetown University and an MBA from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School of Business. In addition to BIA, Liam also serves as a director of Woodpellets.com, EnergyHub and WellAWARE Systems. He is also on the Advisory Board of Dartmouth’s Tuck Center of Private Equity and Entrepreneurship.
